Two Charged Over Heathrow ‘Pepper Spray’ Incident
Formal charges have been brought against two men in connection with a luggage theft where a believed to be irritant spray led to people being hurt at the UK's busiest airport.
Tyrone Richards, 31, and Anton Clarke-Butcher, 24, now face two counts of robbery and two counts of deploying a toxic agent, authorities have stated.
The charges follow an probe of an assault at the parking structure at Heathrow's Terminal Three on Sunday. Before the assault occurred, two women were robbed of their suitcases taken after getting out of a parking garage elevator, according to law enforcement.
A young child was among those injured in the event. A total of five individuals required hospital care and were later discharged.
This event – which authorities stated was a standalone event and not considered a terror-related act – resulted in disruptions to rail services and the temporary blocking of the main airport road tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park for a limited duration.
