The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Selected the Wrong Critical Role Song

This latest animated series, the most recent animated series by Critical Role, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals kicking ass and taking names, while also hinting at multiple heart-wrenching backstories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

Overall, the opening looks amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the song choice.

This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song composed by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. This piece from the official score of that title, the second release put out by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a great sentimental choice, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.

Personally, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder the performer wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Featuring vocals from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the track was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The show's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its mood is a little off.

Of course, the creators has stated that the series will have a few changes and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be released on the streaming service from November 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to get to know the characters of the second series, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
