Patrick Bamford Joins the Blades After Initiating Abusive Chants About Manager Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United just half a year following starting derogatory taunts targeting their manager, Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, without a club since leaving Leeds, has put pen to paper on a deal with the second-tier strugglers until January. His lengthy career with Leeds was ended through agreement in August.

One of Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds included starting insulting songs regarding Wilder during the club’s promotion party this spring. Now, the one-cap England player is set to play under Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to lift the team he loves away from the bottom places.

Previous Conflict Involving the Striker & Wilder

Both men had previous conflict prior to Leeds moved up back to the top flight last season and United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager called the forward as “a muppet” when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United secured direct promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the playoffs.

Reconciliation and Looking Ahead

Everything seems has been put behind them with United, the league's lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement up front while Bamford looking to rejuvenate his career.

The Wilder chant spread widely in April. A repentant Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.

Chris Wilder stated at the time: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I have no problem whatsoever with it. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow pro! However I valued and admired him calling me.

“We had a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel as well and we had a longer discussion together and he is a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we used to give it and take it and that’s part and parcel of football at every level, even on Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I told him that to Patrick.”

Recent Career Challenges

The forward made 18 games with Leeds United last season however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Boro striker has faced difficulties with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
