Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's understandable for doubts to be raised about his position after a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 matches, representing the team's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received a lot of support from management,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it is normal that people question you.”
He added, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the team officials, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “During our regular exchanges I perceive the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Response
The manager highlighted familiar failings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase of this nature with results this poor.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until it is removed, we'll continue to compete.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
